Slacker.com - Matthew Scherer, Robert Uribe, Daniel Schorlemmer, Robert Stephens

http://www.slacker.com/

2. Users can build and customize their own radio station and playlists with a limited amount of skips and advertisements in between. If you purchase the subscribtion for 7.50 a month you get unlimited skips and no advertistements. You get the portable player if you subscribe. There is a built in player on the website that has stations seperated by genres and also more traditional radio play. There is an also an option of searching for songs. This is the premium subscription section.

3. Users are allowed six skips and can pause the stream of radio. You cannot save the songs. With a free account, you can personalize the stations at your will and login at any computer. There are many subgenres for every genre, such as hard rock or classic rock being listed under "Rock".

4. They make money from advertising in between songs and subscriptions that allow more features for users. The site has a store that sells various merchandise including clothing, accessories such as watches, and their own portable player which allows you to listen to their stations wherever you are.

5. The site doesn't contain any genres that we've never heard of. There are no celebrity playlists or artist playlists. Overall the genres are pretty basic, Rock, blues, hip hop, etc.

6. The embedded player is unique. Most sites have a pop- up player instead of one right in the page. The site contains an explination of each genre under the player along with a picture of a band assosciated with the genre. The user friendly interface and the player are it's strongest features. Being able to skip songs is a useful tool when a song you despise comes on the radio.

Interesting reviews on the types of services out there and pretty informative as well. But, there seems to be some information missing in this review on Slacker.

1. I don't think, as you state in number 2, you get a portable player if you subscribe to the service. I believe those are separate things. You can listen to the service on the portable without subscribing and you can subscribe without a portable, but, I don't think the portable is included.

2. In section three, you state that you cannot save songs. Although it is true in the free Slacker service, I believe you can save the songs to your Slacker library in the Premium service which gives you the ability to play them whenever you want.

3. In section four, you state that the genres are pretty basic, but, did you click down into the station folders. The reason I ask is that there are over 100 programmed stations and, although they have most every genre (including the basics), there are some genre stations included that certainly aren't run of the mill like Alt. Hard Rock, Party Country, Indie Hits and Alternative Chill.

4. A feature you didn't mention is the Fine Tune feature, which, IMHO, is a big one. It allows you to change the songs on the station based on Year, Popularity, how much or little you want to discover other music and gives you the ability to request actual songs.

You also didn't mention the heart or ban buttons, which again, allows you to fine tune the station you are listening to and make it more in line with your personal tastes.

5. I think it's one of, if not the only internet radio service that has a portable device that caches songs and lets you take stations with you. I know you briefly mentioned the portable player, but, this is a huge reason why Slacker is different to other internet radio services.

Again, I think you guys did a pretty good review, but, I've been using Slacker since the day it launched last year and have been a huge fan. I just want to make sure all of the facts are out there.
